Your photo on the map. Your place with a story.

Each pixel costs €1.00. You pick your spot on the map, pay with PayPal and show your picture there. With a location pin you also mark the exact place that means something to you and tell its story.

Location pin

Not just a picture. A place with a story.

A pixel is a piece of Earth about one kilometre across. With the location pin you place a marker on the exact spot that means something to you: your childhood home, your favourite beach, the bench where it all began. You add a short story. Visitors discover it when they zoom in and read it alongside your picture.

  • Title and story: up to 500 characters, in your own words
  • Accurate to the metre: with coordinates from OpenStreetMap or by tapping on our map
  • One pin per block, visible to everyone who visits the map
This is whereit all began EXAMPLE
Example

My childhood home

I learned to ride a bike here, in the yard behind the barn. I go back every summer.

Example

The bridge by the river

This is where she said yes. We come back every year on our anniversary.

Example

My summit

After a four-hour climb, the most beautiful sunrise of my life.

These three stories are examples to show you what a location pin can sound like.

How to get on the map

  1. Pick your spot

Tap “Buy pixels” and drag a rectangle on the map. Pixels exist on land only. One pixel is enough; more pixels show your picture larger.

  2. Pay with PayPal

The amount is fixed in advance. Right after payment the spot is yours.

  3. Upload image

We shrink your image automatically and crop it to fit. Optionally add a title and a link.

  4. Mark the place and tell your story

Set the location pin on the exact place that means something to you and write a few sentences. After a short review everything appears on the map.

How large is my picture displayed?

On the map it is as large as your block. When clicked, a large view opens, up to 1600 pixels on the longest side. Landscape and portrait formats are preserved.

What is a location pin?

A pixel is a piece of Earth about one kilometre across (roughly 0.5 to 1.1 kilometres depending on latitude). With the location pin you mark the exact spot inside it, such as your childhood home, a summit or a beach, and briefly tell what it means to you. Visitors see the pin when they zoom in and when they open your picture.

Why are there pixels on land only?

The map is divided into about 159,471,349 land pixels. Water areas cannot be bought. A pixel counts as land as soon as it contains any land, so small islands and coastal towns are included.

Can I change my picture later?

Yes. After the purchase you receive a personal link (also by email to your PayPal address). With it you can replace your picture, title and link at any time.

Which pictures are allowed?

Anything you may use yourself and that is not unlawful, pornographic, violence-glorifying or discriminatory. Every picture is reviewed before it is displayed. Rejected pictures can be replaced by another one free of charge.

How long does my picture stay online?

At least five years from the purchase. After that it stays for as long as the site is operated.

How do I report an inappropriate picture?

Open the picture in the large view and click “Report”. We review the report and take the content offline if it violates the rules.

What if my spot is already taken?

Taken and currently reserved pixels are visible on the map and cannot be selected. A reservation lasts 15 minutes during payment.
